Introduction
TransferRoom is a marketplace that connects football clubs with players for transfers, loans, and acquisitions. The platform's success heavily relies on providing a seamless and efficient onboarding experience for new club users, ensuring they achieve value from the platform as quickly as possible. This design case study aims to propose an optimized onboarding flow that maximizes time-to-value for club users, aligning with TransferRoom's objectives.
The Problem
The primary challenge lies in streamlining the onboarding process, enabling club users to set up their requirements, mark players as available, and pitch players to other clubs' ads efficiently. Achieving value within the first user session is crucial, as it increases the likelihood of continued engagement and successful transactions on the platform.
Design Goals
Minimize Time to Value (TTV): Ensure clubs achieve their primary objectives within the first session.
Intelligent Suggestions: Leverage TransferRoom's extensive player data and intelligence capabilities to provide smart recommendations and pre-populated options, reducing manual input.
Clear Value Proposition: Communicate the platform's value proposition effectively, ensuring club users understand the benefits and potential outcomes.
Intuitive User Experience: Design an intuitive and user-friendly interface that aligns with TransferRoom's brand and visual style.
Onboarding and Value Proposition
Upon accessing the onboarding link, club users will be greeted with a welcoming screen that clearly communicates TransferRoom's value proposition. This screen highlights the platform's ability to connect clubs with relevant players, facilitate transfers, loans, and acquisitions, and provide access to extensive player data.
Upon clicking the button, users are guided through the login or sign-up process. For clubs that have recently signed a contract, users should use the link provided in their contract email to set up their accounts. This step includes entering their email and setting up a password. This streamlined process ensures that users can quickly confirm their identity and connect with the right club data.
To eliminate any confusion, the next screen displays the club's name and logo, allowing users to confirm they are linked to the correct club. If there are any discrepancies, users can correct the club details at this stage. This confirmation step is crucial in ensuring that the subsequent interactions and data are accurate and relevant.
User Objectives
The next step will prompt club users to select their primary objectives for using the platform. Options may include:
Selling/Loaning out players
Acquiring/Loaning in players
Scout New Talents
Analyze Market Trends, etc
Based on the selected objective(s), the onboarding flow will adapt and prioritize the relevant features and actions.
Data Review and Initial Setup
With the objectives and priorities set, the next step leverages TransferRoom's extensive player data to facilitate a quick setup.
Users are presented with a list of their current players, pre-populated from the platform's database. This review screen allows clubs to mark specific players as available for transfer or loan.
The ability to quickly make players available ensures that clubs can start receiving pitches and inquiries almost immediately.
Following the player data review, users are prompted to set up their initial player requirements. This involves specifying the positions they are looking to fill, the desired age range, height, transfer type (buy or loan), and price range. These fields are designed to be simple yet comprehensive, ensuring that the platform can generate accurate and relevant matches for the club’s needs.
Intelligent Suggestions and Matches
Once the initial setup is complete, TransferRoom utilizes its intelligent suggestion engine to provide immediate value. Based on the club's objectives and requirements, the platform displays relevant player and club matches. This screen is divided into sections showing players that meet the club’s requirements and clubs that have shown interest in the players marked as available.
The intelligent suggestions are crucial for demonstrating the platform’s effectiveness early on. Clubs can review detailed player profiles, pitch players to other clubs, express interest in potential transfers, and adjust their requirements as needed. This interactivity not only showcases the platform’s capabilities but also encourages users to take immediate action.
